MASH & SASH Renewed for Low-Income Residents

MASH & SASH Renewed

On January 29, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved renewed funding for both the CSI Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing (MASH) and Single-Family Affordable Solar Homes (SASH) programs across the state’s independently owned utilities and modified several areas of the programs. The changes relate to eligibility requirements, megawatt (MW) targets, incentive levels and job-training opportunities. The decision established a $54 million budget for each program.

CSE Opens Commercial Waitlist

Commercial Solar Wait List

The Center for Sustainability (CSE) has announced that all commercial CSI project applications submitted after February 5 in the San Diego Gas & Electric territory are going on a waitlist because limited program funds remain. This means CSE has nearly reached its 8.2-megawatt target for nonresidential photovoltaic (PV) installations and effectively marks the end the CSI rebate application process statewide.

CSI RD&D Program

The CSI Research, Development, Demonstration and Deployment (RD&D) Program established by the CPUC and managed by Itron, is supporting research conducted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory to improve the utility application review and approval process for interconnecting PV to the utility distribution system. This research is being conducted in collaboration with PG&E, SCE and SDG&E.

The Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) Fund with support from the CSI RD&D Program has created a business model to address the up-front costs and other barriers inhibiting many public agencies from installing photovoltaic systems.

On-the-Roof Job Training

Over the course of two weeks last fall, 11 job trainees from Rising Sun Energy Center came to GRID Alternatives’ Oakland office for an intensive solar PV course – a unique combination of classroom and on-the-roof experience. The course was provided to participants in the center’s Green Energy Training Services Program through a grant from solar panel manufacturer SunPower Corp.
